ART: Hello Digitality!

How does the generation of artists who have grown up after the advent of the Internet perceive the surrounding world?

One of the major shows of international contemporary art, the ARS exhibition, has been organised since 1961. ARS has always reflected the current trends of contemporary art, so it is no wonder that every exhibition has given rise to agitated discussions.
This year the theme is the global digital breakthrough, whose influence is seen in culture, economy and the behaviour of people. ARS17 explores how a whole generation of artists grown up since the breakthrough perceives the surrounding world.
Digitality is strongly present in virtuality, interactivity and the gaming world. Hence, many of the exhibited works are video pieces.
—The concept of a work of art has experienced an ontological breakthrough. There has been a change from singular pieces to immaterial objects that are realised in very different ways in different contexts, says Kiasma’s museum director Leevi Haapala.
