THE SPIRIT OF HELSINKI: Book shop Nide
The reports of the death of the book are greatly exaggerated.
Book shop Nide on Fredrikinkatu in the coolest district of Helsinki, Punavuori, has been welcomed with joy.
Helsinki definitely needs an indie bookshop that sells hand-picked books on art, design, fashion and photography
as well as poetry, fact and comics. Nide also carries an interesting selection of magazines from around the world.
The book shop was opened by Joose Siira and Terhi Jääskeläinen just before
last Christmas. The shop is a fulfillment of dreams, the chance to operate independently in the field that both of them love.
—The shop could hardly be in a better location. We were in the right place at the right time, says Siira.
The proprietors believe that even a small bookshop is a viable business. Direct customer contact is irreplaceable.
—It is easier to peruse the books and get to know them before making a decision to buy something. We are happy to help customers in looking for suitable reading, finding the right book is really rewarding, says Jääskeläinen.
Nide. Fredrikinkatu 35. Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 10–17.
