MADE IN HELSINKI: Ginsinki

Spirits are once again distilled in Helsinki, now with a licence. After a hundred years the city sports a private distillery. Kai Kilpinen, Seámus Holohan and Mikko Mykkänen established The Helsinki Distilling Company in the old meat-packing area, now fashionable Teurastamo, in Kalasatama.

The namesake spirit of the distillery is the Helsinki Dry Gin. It is distilled and bottled by hand in small batches. The robust gin exhibits the aromas of coniferous forest and forest meadow. The gin is made with the excellent Helsinki water, straight from the tap.

The managing director, Séamus Holohan, is proud of the company’s products: “To be able to start a distillery in the food culture area of Teurastamo has been a fantastic experience. Equally interesting has been starting the production and sales of our different products including the Helsinki Dry Gin and Helsingfors Fiskehamns Akvavit. Now we are eagerly awaiting the opening of our distillery bar in June.”
